I have a passion for working with young adults as they navigate the, sometimes difficult, processes of exploring their mental and emotional health and well being while also juggling their school, work, and relationships in their life. I work with students who are experiencing difficulties with anxiety, depression, stress management, emotional dysregulation, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, life transitions, along with many other struggles that are occurring. When working together, you will be given a safe and nonjudgmental space to gain deeper insight into what you are struggling with. You will be able to take therapy at your own pace and develop skill to help regulate emotions, manage life stressors, experience growth, and access the strength you have had all along. We will work together as a team throughout. I offer an empathetic, caring, and trauma-informed therapeutic environment. I believe that you are the expert of your life and it is an honor to be apart of that journey. Let's connect further to see if this would be a space that could be beneficial towards helping you gain deeper insight into yourself and achieving your goals.

Are you a high achiever but under value yourself? Work hard and have objective success but feel something is missing, or that it's still not enough? Do you feel aspects of your life need improvement, direction, guidance, change, or growth? Is the old tried and true approach you take, not working anymore? Come improve your mood, reduce anxiety, strengthen self-esteem, manage stress, work through academic/social/professional challenges, process grief, improve relationships and communication, strengthen parenting techniques, and have smoother life transitions. Therapy's success is equal to the work you put into it, come do the work! I have been working with clients in the greater Boston area since 2010, and have been an Adjunct Professor, teaching in higher education, since 2013. I combine components of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Positive Psychology, Narrative Therapies, Mindfulness Techniques, and Solutions Focused Problem Solving Techniques to tailor to your needs. My approach is caring & direct. I focus on the whole person, and work to help strengthen and balance the mentally, emotionally, physically, and behaviorally. I often ask "what is going well" to build on one's strengths and resilience, to better manage emotions, process experiences, and change behaviors.

It cannot be overstated what a big deal it is that you have begun to explore finding support for yourself. This first step is one of the hardest. I’d be honored to be a resource for you during this time, and accompany you as you grow and change. The majority of my clients are high achievers of all stripes, from Ivy League students to folks attending competitive conservatories and art schools. I was a performing artist (actor, singer, musician) for 12 years in New York City before changing careers, and I specialize in working with folks who have creative identities. Many of my clients are LGBTQ+ and/or neurodivergent, and most also find themselves in overfunctioning/underfunctioning dynamics in their relationships. My main therapy modality is Internal Family Systems (IFS), as well as somatic mindfulness-based therapy (Hakomi), and experiential therapy (gestalt). Basically this means that, in therapy, I will support you in getting more familiar with your internal system by helping you track what’s happening in your mind, your body, and between you and I (the therapist and the client). I’ll also guide you towards deepening your relationship with the different “parts” of your system, learning their agendas and desires, which sometimes produce inner conflicts and create stuckness. It’s well-known that being mindful of your body and breath is a great way to reduce stress, and using this practice as real situations arise in therapy will give you a practical way to use it in your day-to-day. As you get to know your system better, you will build greater trust within yourself, allowing for stuck parts to shift and for real lasting change to occur. If you’ve been in therapy before and it just felt like venting, IFS will be different. Pro tip: the research suggests that the therapy modality you use is less important than a trusting relationship with your therapist as far as positive therapy outcomes (though I will happily talk IFS theory for days). Do your best to go with your gut feeling about who intuitively feels right when choosing a therapist, even if right now might be the hardest time to do so. If something about my practice resonates, please reach out and schedule a consultation! I look forward to hearing from you soon!
My clients are motivated towards long term change. Many are seeking relief from painful experiences. Most recognize a need to regain control. And, almost all do not know how to achieve on their own what they are acknowledging they need. They are tired of going through the motions of life and wish to experience it fully, again. Some come with deep hurt from various relationships that they need support in resolving. And all simply want to live authentically. My goal is to provide the type of therapeutic environment that clients feel safe to be vulnerable and present with their feelings. I offer a strength based, person centered approach, rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, or Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Choosing a therapist is not easy and the task can feel overwhelming at a time in your life that is already stressful. Therefore, I invite you to schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation with me. This will afford an opportunity to hear my voice and briefly discuss your reason for therapy.
I’m a licensed therapist (MA, NH, FL) specializing in helping young adults who are feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, trauma, school stress, self-esteem challenges or major life transitions. My goal is to create a supportive, collaborative space where clients feel safe exploring their feelings and gaining tools to manage them with confidence. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach to help clients understand the patterns that may be affecting their mood, behavior and relationships. Together, we build coping skills, improve communication and make meaningful changes that support emotional well-being. My style is warm, empathetic and engaging. I meet each person where they are, honoring their strengths and fostering resilience. With the right support, individuals can learn to cope, grow and thrive. I'm committed to creating a space where clients feel heard, respected and empowered.
I enjoy working with college students, and have experience treating a wide variety of issues. These include, but are not limited to: Anxiety, depression, stress, adjustment problems, self-esteem difficulties, and family conflict. I also have a special interest and training background in PTSD and trauma-related difficulties. I am EMDR-trained. My style is warm and collaborative, and I use an individualized approach with each client. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for you to gain support, insight, and tools to guide you on your mental health journey. I am an ideal choice for students who go to school in Massachusetts but permanently reside in New Hampshire (or vice versa). I am licensed in both states, which means that I can meet with you when you are at school and when you are home on breaks. I am an ally and safe space to members of the LGTBQIA community, racial/ethnic minorities, and those impacted by poverty. I am aware of how systemic oppression, systems of privilege, and all forms of prejudice impact human functioning. However, I do not pretend to be an expert in these areas, and I am not personally a member of the above-mentioned communities. I welcome any questions about me or my practice. Please feel free to reach out at carahgarsopsyd@gmail.com or 603-577-5551 x3.

After several years working as a nurse in the medical field and understanding the mind-body connection, I discovered that I wanted to work in a way that I could create long term relationships with my patients. I believe that mental health is just as important as our physical health. Although I am a strong advocate for holistic modalities such as therapy, movement, nutrition, and sleep, psychopharmacology can be a critical part of your treatment journey. Medications work best when used in conjunction with therapy and overall well-being practices. I understand that making sure you are working with a provider who can meet you where you are and support you in your journey makes a big difference in your healing. I believe my role as a nurse practitioner is to provide education and guide you to make choices that feel the best to you and your healing.
