There are times in life when our usual coping strategies and support systems are not enough and it takes courage to seek help during times of pain and uncertainty. Navigating college and graduate school in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, racial inequities and tension, and the current political climate can certainly be one of these times and you don’t have to navigate it alone. Therapy can provide a safe space for support, learning, and meaningful change. I am a licensed psychologist who specializes in evidence-based treatments for adolescents and young adults who are seeking support to manage mood, anxiety, college mental health, life transitions, grief, motivation, sleep, and family concerns. I also specialize in working with family members or loved ones of individuals who have a diagnosis of serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. I am passionate about working with college and graduate students and have extensive experience and training working within the context of college mental health. My therapeutic style is warm, active, compassionate, and collaborative. I use a strengths-based approach and draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other evidence-based approaches to tailor treatment to the specific values, strengths, and goals of my clients. I utilize these approaches to help clients create a toolbox of coping skills and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. Every person has a unique identity, story, and experience, and deserves personalize therapy to fit their identities and strengths. My priority is to create a space where every client feels safe discussing painful thoughts and feelings, and supported as they work toward creating meaningful change in their lives. I applaud you for taking the first step in finding a therapist. I encourage you to reach out to me if you think I may be a good fit for you.

Is it harder than you expected to be a college student? Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, and anxious on most days? Things can be different. Imagine if you could navigate the stress of schoolwork, balance your time for the people and things that are important to you, make time for self-care, and quiet your mind so you can have more than a few hours of sleep each night. You deserve more than just making it through the day. I can help you figure out how to make things better. My clients describe me as supportive, nonjudgmental, and easy to talk to. I help them learn how to make sense of their past, feel grounded and confident in the present, and start creating the future they want. I specialize in helping people learn how to manage anxiety, stress, life changes, ADHD, and trauma. My practice is culturally sensitive, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and neurodiversity-affirming. Many people struggle to find balance and fulfillment in life, but things can get better. Therapy can be a safe space to rediscover your strengths, build confidence, and learn skills to make your days easier. Central to the therapy process is connecting with someone with whom you can openly explore your past and present; thoughts, feelings, and wishes. As a therapist I am committed to helping you understand the important experiences and patterns that have influenced your life and begin to find openings for new insights and greater meaning. This can allow for personal growth, more fulfilling relationships, and improved coping with difficulties. My style is collaborative, supportive and interactive. My approach involves both facilitating personal exploration and helping you find new strategies for managing difficulty. People who come to see me are often struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, eating/body image concerns, or struggling with transitions in young adulthood

If you are reading this, then you are looking for some help. I got you. Mind Matters Therapeutics is my brain child (see what I did there?). I taught for a decade, then I decided to go back to school to practice medicine. Best decision I ever made. The best part of all this? I know the ups, downs, inside-outs, stressors, and joys of being a student. I know the demands of college coursework. I have expertise in advocating for young adults in the educational setting regardless of the individual concern: Are you looking for continuation of care? I will pick up where your hometown doc left off. Keep you going strong. Are you looking for academic accommodations and advocacy? I will fight for you. And my paperwork is exceptional. Are you looking for someone to talk to? I specialize in trauma-focused therapy and OCD/anxiety type therapy. I can see you as much as you need to be seen, no limitations. Are you in need of just figuring it all out? My initial assessments are thorough; I leave no stone unturned. I take the time to listen to you. Always. You’re the captain of the ship, and you’re in control of your care. We will figure out the root issues at the jump. I got you. I will never dismiss you. I will be available to you. I will respond to your questions, needs, concerns, etc. in a timely way. I am on your team, I work for you. I sincerely care. I do this for my soul, not my pocket. I’d love to help. P.S. Don’t sweat the insurance. I know how to work with in and out-of-network insurance. My students pay little (if anything) to see me. Honest. Best, Des O’Doherty Mind Matters Therapeutics

Therapy doesn’t have to feel stiff or scary. I believe healing works best when we can laugh, reflect, and be real together. I create a space where you can bring your full self, messy, hopeful, curious, and everything in between. Whether you’re navigating stress, identity, relationships, or just figuring out who you want to be, we’ll work side by side to uncover your strengths and help you move forward. As a social work intern, I’m passionate about supporting people through life’s in-between moments, the chapters that feel uncertain, overwhelming, or full of possibility. I bring an easygoing, compassionate style to therapy, blending evidence-based practices with genuine human connection. My approach is collaborative and non-judgmental: think of me as both a guide and a co-pilot. I work with individuals who want to explore identity, manage stress and anxiety, process life transitions, and deepen self-understanding. I also care deeply about working with young adults, students, and marginalized communities, helping folks feel seen and supported in spaces that often overlook them. Therapy with me is not about being ‘perfect’, it’s about exploring your story, building resilience, and finding ways to grow that actually feel authentic to you."

I specialize in substance use disorders and addiction but can help anyone looking to address their relationship with substances, even if you don't think your problem is serious. I also can help with other impulse or compulsive issues such as gaming or internet addiction disorders. I use a Harm Reduction approach, meaning I don't think abstinence from use is the right answer for everyone, and can help identify what skills you need to make the changes you'd like to make. I'm also a trained trauma therapist and have worked with a wide range of clients on addressing numerous types of trauma including combat-related and sexual traumas. My office is located in Harvard Square but I can also provide virtual session (over FaceTime or VSee) for appropriate clients.

Hello, If you have found this page I commend you for working to find a resource with whom to unpack the issues causing you confusion and suffering. I have an extensive clinical history working with people in a variety of settings with a large array of presenting issues, ranging from mood/thought disorders, developmental delays, trauma, family conflict, addictions, life-transitions, stress-related issues, and many other simple and complex problems. As a result, I have a level of comfort in working with a wide range of people with a wide range of issues from a wide range of backgrounds. I am a culturally sensitive trauma-informed clinician chiefly concerned with ensuring that you feel seen, heard, and safe in our relationship. I tend to work from a strengths-based biopsychosocial perspective with a focus on the emergence of one's self in a social and relational context, specifically how this self is created, developed, and sustained. However, most importantly, I will work to gain mutual clarity about how you can begin to shift the notions of our who your "self" is and how it can attain increasing amounts of peace in your life.

As a compassionate and dedicated mental health counselor, I specialize in supporting college and graduate students as they navigate the unique academic, emotional, interpersonal, and developmental challenges that arise during this important stage of life. Drawing from years of experience working in college counseling centers, I understand the pressures students often face, including anxiety, stress, procrastination, burnout, identity development, relationship concerns, family dynamics, substance use, and major life transitions. My therapeutic approach is collaborative, direct, and compassionate. I strive to create a supportive space where students feel heard, understood, and empowered to better understand themselves while building practical tools for growth and resilience. I recognize that the demands of higher education can impact every aspect of a student’s well-being, and I work closely with clients to develop personalized strategies that support both emotional health and academic success. In addition to individual therapy, I have extensive experience facilitating group therapy and supporting students in crisis, helping individuals strengthen self-awareness, improve coping skills, and build more fulfilling relationships with themselves and others. I am deeply committed to fostering an inclusive and affirming environment where students can explore challenges openly and work toward meaningful, lasting change. If you are looking for a therapist who will work collaboratively with you to identify goals, build on your strengths, and help you navigate the complexities of college or graduate life, I would be honored to support you on your journey.

All narratives are unique and it is an honor to have your stories shared with me. I value humor and patience and work to create a safe and open environment with my clients. Suffering is embedded and essential to the human spirit--it allows us to gain perspective, wisdom, and insight. I like to find the light in dark times and help cultivate and grow that light for when we face our next challenges. I will let you know why I am asking about certain areas of your life and will fully and transparently narrate my process so that we can work collaboratively and openly.
