Intown Psychology provides therapy for children, teens and young adults. We are based in Atlanta and specialize in anxiety disorders, ADHD, and depression. Our team is skilled in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and exposure and response prevention (ERP) among other modalities. Our approach is solution-focused, and we practice from a trauma-informed approach. Intown Psychology is a self-pay practice. The range is between $150–$250. We do not take insurance at this time. However, we can always provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance provider, which typically goes toward your out-of-network deductible.
Welcome! I am so glad you are taking the time to look over my profile and get to know me better. It takes a lot of courage and vulnerability to seek out counseling. I believe in the power of therapy and the healing it can bring in one's life. My therapeutic approach is a collaborative approach, meaning as your therapist, I will work with you to help you gain insight and develop coping skills that will make an impactful difference in your life. I always prioritize our relationship and want you to feel safe and accepted for who you are. My clients appreciate my authentic personality, my humor, and my ability to empathize with them. Many of my clients come to therapy to gain a better understanding who they are, where they come from, and where they want to go. Sometimes clients come to therapy for just a handful of sessions and find that they got what they needed in that time. Others may find that they benefit from going to therapy for months or even years. There is no right or wrong way. However, you get as much out of therapy as you put in, so it's important to be an active participant in and out of the session. If I feel that I am not equipped or trained in what you are needing from therapy, I am happy to refer you to another professional who may be a better fit. Melissa Light holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Emory University. She received her Master's Degrees in Elementary Education from Southern Connecticut State University and in Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University. Melissa completed her practicum and internship at Ray of Hope, providing play therapy for children and individual and couples counseling for adults. She has worked with individuals to address mood and anxiety disorders, grief, and relationship issues. In addition to private practice, she has provided therapy in a university counseling center and at an outpatient recovery center for opioid addiction. As a counselor at the recovery center, she led a Women’s Self-Care group which addressed issues of physical and emotional well-being, co-dependency, healthy boundaries, and parenthood. Additionally, Melissa has served as a guest speaker for a support group for new mothers in the Atlanta area. Melissa sees her role as being a guide to help clients gain understanding of themselves. Having said that, we strive to stay ahead of the curve and provide our clients the best therapy available. I approach therapy through a cognitive, culturally sensitive, and mindfulness based lens. I utilize EMDR to help process trauma and other negative emotions stored in the body. I have completed EMDR basic training under Deany Laliotis, LICSW and am working toward my full EMDR certification under the consultation of Dr. Pegah Moghaddam, PsyD. I work with clients experiencing a myriad of clinical concerns including depression, anxiety, life transitions, and grief. Additionally, I have a passion for working with individuals overcoming complex trauma, including sexual abuse. Some of my other clinical experiences include working with substance use, HIV/AIDS, eating disorders, and suicidal ideation. Many of my clients are seeking out culturally sensitive care, where their identities are given the space to be seen and heard.
