Shane Phillips
I work with undergraduate and graduate students who are struggling with a variety of mental health, substance use, and existential problems. My patients are often looking to reduce their suffering and increase their sense of meaning and purpose in life. I especially enjoy working with people who are interested in a deeper self-understanding and working together to uncover the feelings, narratives, conflicts, and motivations that may be ruling their lives but outside of their awareness. My first priority when working with new patients is to establish trust and help create a relationship that is safe and honest. Within the context of this secure relationship, my patients are able to better understand their self-limiting or self-defeating patterns, mourn life's losses, and establish or reestablish a life that is organized around the values that matter most to them. My hope is that my patients will develop a reliable self-esteem, improve their ability to be in relationship with self and others, and live life with less reactivity and more flexibility. I received an MSW degree from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work before gaining clinical experience in diverse settings all along the addiction medicine levels of care. I opened a private practice in 2023 and currently provide services to adolescents, adults, families, and organizations.
Institute for Psychological Development
As a licensed clinical psychologist, Gershom Lazarus draws from a background in physiology, neuropsychology, and clinical psychology to provide an integrated approach to assessment and treatment. He currently practices as a partner of IPD, an institute established over 40 years with offices in Georgia and Florida. Dr. Lazarus initially came to the United States as an international student and can relate to some of the seemingly unrelenting challenges facing students currently. The primary approach to providing care is rooted in developing an understanding of contributing factors at the physiological, neurological/neuropsychological, and psychological levels within the context of an individual’s behavioral and societal functioning. Each session aims to focus on understanding and psycho-education regarding the presenting issues, exercises for between sessions designed to practice strategies developed in-session, and ultimately “real-world” applications targeting areas of concern. While the initial focus tends to be managing the main areas of concern, the importance of growth and meaning are gradually introduced.

I address anxiety stemming from social, school, and family dynamics, providing the necessary support to navigate these changes. I assist in the transition from college to career, including complexities in dating, family, and work, offering a safe space to explore self-identity and achieve life goals. We will collaborate using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy. What does this mean? It means we will identify the false scripts keeping you stuck and create a new storyline where you are the main character shaping your life. In my space, every uncomfortable feeling is accepted, and every question is worth asking. Whether you’ve never sought counseling before or have been in therapy for years, I believe my approach is unique. My goal is to empower you and watch you succeed. So, let's connect and collaboratively rewrite your narrative.

I provide individual therapy to young adults and adults experiencing a range of concerns including substance use, trauma, life transitions, and the unique stressors men face. I approach counseling from the perspective that you already have strengths and abilities that you can use to become your strongest self. Together, we find those strengths and put them to work towards your goals. As part of this I often use Cognitive Behavioral therapy, a technique that looks at the relationship between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. It’s been shown to be incredibly effective at helping people make lasting changes in their lives. I am a Master Addiction Counselor and trained in E.M.D.R., a technique shown to be effective in treating trauma. It is also common that you may not have your finger on exactly what you hope to work on, yet you know you are seeking growth and change. If that’s the case, therapy can be a powerful tool to help you clarify what you want and how to best get it. If you are interested in learning more about how working together can help you reach your goals, contact me for a free consultation. Consultations are done by phone, take about 15 minutes and give us a chance to see if we would be a good fit to work together.

Living Fully Psychological Services
We are Living Fully Psychological Services, but affectionately call ourselves Living Fully Therapy. Dr. Pegah Moghaddam is the owner and founder of Living Fully. We provide therapy online and in-person at an office located in Atlanta, Georgia, within walking distance of Emory University. Our psychologists and therapists specialize in therapy for trauma, anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, eating disorders, and sleep. With life experience comes pain, loss, and suffering. Our goal is to learn about and understand your unique history and life path with openness, compassion, acceptance, and patience. We will teach you to do the same for yourself, as these factors are necessary to the process of change and ultimately to live fully. Please note that we are an out-of-network, non-preferred provider with Aetna student health insurance for Emory students. If you are enrolled in the Emory University Student Health Insurance Plan (EUSHIP), you will need a referral from Emory Student Health Services to Living Fully before starting sessions. You will need one referral per academic year (which begins each August 1). The 2023-2024 EUSHIP has a $750 deductible for non-preferred providers, which you will typically meet within your first 5-6 sessions at Living Fully. I think it can be normal to find therapy awkward, uncomfortable, or anxiety provoking, especially at first, and so it is really important to me to help create a space that can be tailored to support you as much as possible. I collaborate with you to uncover what you value, the person you would like to move towards being, and together we create a path that helps you move in the direction you would like to go. I use an integrative, client-led and trauma-informed approach that blends complementary therapeutic modalities to hold space for both your mind and body in sessions. The heart of which is a desire to understand you, to invite in curiosity, and to help support you in embodying your potential. Empathy and compassion play a big role in this as well as a little laughter. I will also lean into activation, discomfort, and challenging you at times. This is done with the explicit understanding this is your place to let me know when it is too much, when it is a “no”, or when I’ve mis-attuned. I use a feedback-informed approach to learn how to better support you. Feel free to visit my website to learn more about my specialties and the therapeutic approaches I use. I'm happy to answer any questions. I look forward to connecting!

The Unencumbered Appetite
I help folks with Eating Disorders and other people who want to find a positive and peaceful relationship with food, who are ready for an alternative to prescriptive diets and fads, and looking for a more sustainable solution to their eating woes: whether that physical symptoms, dysfunctional eating, negative body image, or food preoccupation. I use utilize the principles of Intuitive Eating and operate from a weight-neutral lens, meaning focus on behaviors and measurable health outcomes (both physical and psychological) vs. a weight-centric approach and over-reliance on BMI (a wildly inappropriate tool for individual assessment). Evidence-based nutrition counseling services from a license professional are offered via Telehealth or in person at my Decatur office, to folks living in Georgia who want a whole-person and collaborative approach to wellness.

Do you experience the feeling of loneliness, sadness, or fear of the future? Do these feelings affect your ability to do the things you normally enjoy? Helping people live a life that they love is my passion. Learning how to work through difficult relationships, process grief, set boundaries, or process going through a life transition. My goal is to help you learn how to work through these issues and live the life you've been longing for. I offer a welcoming space with in-person and virtual appointments to suit your schedule. As a therapist, I am here to listen and encourage the client, but the client has to want to do the work within themselves. It is so important for us to work as a team to establish achievable goals that you as the client can work towards. I am the guide, but it is up to the client to put forth the work and effort to heal and better themselves. I would love to hear about you and your story. I am passionate about helping others to feel listened to and acknowledging that we are not identified by our mental health issues. I want to be able to help you to work through your issues. I want to help you rebuild and reframe your thought processes so we can bring hope and light to your situation. I earned my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Penfield College at Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia, and my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia. I am currently working under the supervision of Joel Baker, LMFT, and the clinical direction of Meg McLeroy, LMFT. Please do not hesitate to give me a call or connect with me via email!
