Life can be difficult to maneuver. As multifaceted individuals we often carry a little weight in every one of our realms. These weights can be a result of the specific “trauma points” that we’ve held on to as our perspective has grown over time. Those points look like family conflict, life transitions, career stress, relational/personal redevelopment or many other reasons for why we may have crossed paths here today. Overall, how we engage with those points affects our relationship with healing. Whether we recognize it or not, we all could have used guidance through a period of suffering. Every doubt is an opportunity for growth. “As you start to walk along the way, the way appears…” Trusting the journey by learning through our opportunities for growth can align us with our highest possible outcomes. To do that, I use a few types of therapy such as EMDR, CBT, Solutions-Focused & Strength-Based learning techniques to help encourage an atmosphere where growth is focused & intentional. It could be helpful to remember that the journey is the process. As we learn ourselves through guided introspection we can gain insight into patterns that contribute to our daily habits. Hello! My name is Mike and I have been working as a therapist since I graduated with my Master’s in Applied Clinical Psychology from USC Aiken in 2022. Prior to this I attended The Ohio State University where I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Psychology. I have worked as a therapist in a university psychology clinic, an inpatient psychiatric hospital, in the community with children and teens, and currently in the prison system. We are a sliding scale practice the strives to help and be affordable. Student rates are generally $20 to $30 per session. We specialize in trauma and PTSD, but also work with depression, anxiety, stress, anger, and relationship issues.

Using a client-centered approach in an accepting and caring environment, I enjoy working with those who experience issues from trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, women's issues, and life transitional issues, such as marriage, separation, and divorce. We can work together to develop your individual goals to reach your greatest potential of well-being. I utilize the most current evidence based treatments in my practice to promote healing of the body and mind. I would love to meet with you to see if I would be a good fit for your needs! I received EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) training in 2016 and have been an EMDR certified therapist since 2018 and have been trained to utilize ego states and cognitive interweaves, flash technique, and other evidence based strategies within EMDR. I also utilize a client-centered approach with various treatment modalities in addition to EMDR to include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Relaxation and Stress Management Techniques, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Memory Reconsolidation in Trauma Therapy. To the Root Counseling is comprised of a team of experienced Black Women Therapists who provide individual and couples therapy through virtual and in-person sessions.
