Therapists for college students near Boulder, CO
Hi! Thank you for reading! I provide skills-based, evidence-based therapy services to children and young adults. I am a Licensed Psychologist for the state of Colorado and I find true joy, inspiration, and hope from connecting with individuals and their families. I specialize in CBT, DBT, and ACT. Learning about, listening to, and working with people to implement effective strategies is what I love to do, and I look forward to continuing to support families. I have been fortunate to work as a mental health professional in a variety of settings and I am excited to learn about people, be a catalyst for positive changes, and be a dedicated member of each family’s team. I have worked with young people experiencing challenges related to Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), learning and academic struggles, behavioral difficulties, Anxiety and Depression, and social and family stress.
My focus is on supporting highly sensitive people, neurodivergent folks, and those navigating the intersection of chronic physical and mental health challenges. Many of my clients carry deep exhaustion from masking, overextending, or abandoning themselves to fit in. My work centers on creating belonging, restoring self-trust, and honoring sensitivity as a gift - not a problem to solve.

Life is challenging and confusing, especially during a time like right now. Given the pandemic, many of us are attempting to find normalcy in an extremely abnormal situation. Everyday life has become even more stressful, it's harder to be in relationship, and finding moments of "okay" might be few and far between. Having your own space to talk about your experiences, whether dealing with the present situation or managing old wounds, is not only important but beneficial for maintaining our mental health. I work with adolescents, young adults and adults on a variety of issues. Primarily, I help clients by bringing attention to the storylines we have created (and will continue to create) about ourselves that cause pain, distress, and disconnection. These stories might look like: I am not [fill in the blank] enough; I should be happier/more successful/less afraid; I am unworthy of love; I can't manage life on life's terms; I’m an outsider. Uncovering these storylines and reframing them is the beginning to living a different life, one that feels, well frankly, better.
My therapeutic style is warm and approachable. You will be welcomed into a non-judgmental space with respect and an open-mind. I work with college students and I utilize a blend of EMDR, CBT, DBT, Positive Psychology, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing to help my clients develop the skills that they need to build confidence and positive self-awareness.
If you are a young adult who is considering college, in college or existing and navigating the real-world, I am here for you. I provide a candid and non-judgmental space for college-aged youth to explore who you are and who you are becoming; to be true to self while navigating external pressures. My work is a combination of therapy, coaching, and mentorship to help you increase self-awareness, identify blind spots, practice communication and conflict resolution skills and negotiate external pressures. I support you to ultimately trust yourself while staying connected to peers, and to feel more effective in navigating all of life’s decisions, big and small. I support you with stressors associated with a high academic load, sexual experimentation and sexual pressures, social pressures, individuation from parents, major and career confusion and questions about identity and purpose. I am direct, genuine and collaborative, and bring a natural curiosity and empathy to my work with clients. I use a relational and somatic depth-oriented therapeutic approach with a focus on present moment bodily and emotional experience to help you work through hard places, release emotional blocks and feel more creative and free in your life.

My clients are smart, self-aware people who've been managing a lot on their own for a long time — and they're tired. They want to stop overthinking everything, feel more solid in their relationships, and figure out who they actually are underneath the performance. A lot of them are queer, neurodivergent, or both, and they're done explaining the basics to their therapist. They want someone direct, who notices patterns, and who won't let them stay comfortable when they're ready for something different. I'm a clinical psychologist. I work with attachment, identity, and the ways people get stuck trying to hold it all together. My style is warm but direct — I'll give you real feedback, not just nod and reflect. We use what works, and go at the pace your nervous system can handle. If you want an authentic therapist who's honest with you, helps you build skills that work outside the room, and actually tracks whether things are getting better — reach out. We'll figure out what matters and go from there.
Individuals struggling with suicidal ideation can come to The Hope Institute for treatment, to increase hope, and obtain the ability to safely wait for ongoing outpatient care, when needed. Our approach is unique, as it is based in the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), two of the most effective, evidence-based models currently available for treating suicidality. With the use of CAMS and DBT, the clinician and client will work together to solve problems. CAMS is an evidenced-based therapeutic framework for suicide-specific assessment and treatment of a patient’s suicidal risk. Each session of CAMS intentionally utilizes the patient’s input about what is and is not working. All assessment work in CAMS is collaborative; we seek to have the patient be a “co-author” of their own treatment plan (CAMS-care, 2024). DBT is a type of talk therapy that gives clients skills in regulating their emotions, tolerating distress, maintaining healthy relationships, practicing mindfulness and thinking from perspectives other than their own. THI is home to multiple clinicians who are certified and trained in CAMS and DBT. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based behavior focused treatment intended to help clients build a life worth living while reducing suicidal and self-harming behaviors. Parent and teen groups are available. DBT groups provide clients with five core skills to manage intense emotions and enhance day-to-day life: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and dialects.
Hi, I'm Dr. Franks! When I see students, I conduct an initial session where I provide a diagnosis (if present) and can recommend and provide medications and/or therapy for treatment. I enjoy working with students because their task to start living on their own and develop their own identity is uniquely challenging and exciting. I can help with the diagnosis and treatment of things like depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, psychosis, etc. Symptoms that my patients commonly struggle with include worry, sadness, suicidal thinking, stress, insomnia, and trouble concentrating. I am passionate about working with motivated students to help them thrive during their time in college. I completed my undergraduate education at the University of Denver, earning degrees in Biology, Chemistry, and French. I completed my medical and residency training at the University of Colorado, where I had the privilege of serving as Chief Resident. I have since worked in private practice. I look forward to working with you!
Welcome to my therapy practice, and congratulations on starting your therapeutic journey! It takes courage to seek growth and healing. I believe in a fully integrated approach to psychotherapy, understanding that each individual has a unique healing journey. I strive to create a supportive environment that honors the mind, body, and spirit, and to address all aspects of a person, including underlying psychological, spiritual, and even physical contributors to distress. My aim is to facilitate a holistic understanding of your experiences and promote emotional transformation for self-growth. Through an approach that emphasizes compassion and non-judgment, I seek to create a safe space where you can explore your feelings, beliefs, and experiences without fear of criticism or rejection. Whether you are dealing with addiction, depression, anxiety, trauma, or other challenges, I am here to support you on your journey towards greater self-awareness and personal growth.
I work primarily in the areas of addiction, adoption, trauma, and spiritual needs. As an addiction counselor, I work primarily with young men and women struggling to overcome compulsive use of drugs, alcohol, pornography, and internet usage. This may range from life-destructive addiction to those just beginning to see that their use is bringing things they don't want. As an adoption counselor, I work to help adult adoptees confront the issues that may or may not be stemming from being given up for adoption. And as a trauma therapist, I work with the mind-body connection to help those calm their nervous system, and reclaim a clear mind. Finally, all of my work entails the use of mindfulness, and working with the body's response to the mind. This makes my approach very suitable for those beginning to connect to their own sense of spirituality.
Are you searching for Whole-Person Healing Rooted in Mindfulness, Energy, and Emotional Balance? I've created a space where people are gently guided back to their most authentic selves—a place where both light and shadow are honored. I believe healing isn’t linear, and there’s no “right” way to grow. This is a space where shame, guilt, and self-doubt can be released from the body, and where your full humanity is embraced. We will cultivate tools and insight to help you reconnect with your truth and rise into your highest self.
