Hello, I am a psychologist with over 20 years of experience in the field. I have a couple of openings this spring/summer! My experience has allowed me to bring a deeper perspective to situations, and I know the value of giving that feedback to my clients. Do you want help with relationship problems, anxiety, depression, trauma, loss & grief, life transitions, cultural/racial issues, health problems and substance use? Send me a message and I'd be glad to do a free consult call with you. If I'm not the right therapist for you, I'm happy to give you some names of colleagues. I use a variety of approaches like CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), Solution-Focused, Psychodynamic and Existential therapies. I'm licensed in Colorado, California and 42 other states through PsyPact. That means when you go home for the summer/breaks and it's likely I'll be licensed in your home state!
Life is rough sometimes, and it’s so easy to feel stuck, wondering where life is going. My goal is to help you find new perspectives and new ways of looking at any situation, so that you can approach life with confidence and authenticity. Along with bringing a multicultural perspective to therapy as a therapist of color, I utilize an integrative approach of Narrative and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, and other modalities that fit your unique life journey. I find the greatest enjoyment in working with adults, couples, and adolescents from culturally diverse backgrounds. Areas of concern that I have extensive experience in includes, anxiety, burnout, depression, interpersonal/ relationship difficulties, racial stress and trauma, general school-work-life balance stress, helping clients cultivate a healthy relationship with physical fitness, as well as those simply seeking a bit more fulfillment or life satisfaction. I also work diligently in conducting psychological assessments and ADHD evaluations. Of special interest, my research on the psychological impact of code-switching behavior in African-Americans allows me a unique perspective on how to help professionals of color learn to cope with stress. Coupled with my passion for social justice, advocacy and the role they play in mental health, my goal is to help break the stigma of mental health in communities of color. If you feel we may be a good fit, or desire to learn more about my specialties, experience & approaches to therapy, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to speaking with you!
Have things started to feel harder than they used to? This is a good sign. It's time to take care of you in a more meaningful way than you've experienced before. I work with clients who report feeling dismayed by their reactions to work stress, school stress, and/or relationship stress. I'm a deeply empathetic, yet directive therapist. I draw from multiple research-backed approaches to address your needs and goals. I have extensive experience working with overwhelm, stress, and depression, as well as PTSD, with adults, children and families. I feel honored to work with clients in what I consider to be a sacred process. Most of my clients report that they feel relief and hope within the first session. Clients see continued improvement as we process challenging experiences together and honor the natural wisdom and sense of personal power that arises from the work. Over time, experiences of reactivity, as well feelings such as anxiety, anger, sadness, and joy all become meaningful and helpful when we hold them with curiosity and compassion. And despite my education and training, I want you to know that I won't ever be 'done' finding parts of myself that need more love, or areas of my life that stretch me when I least expect it. It's because I lead a truly human life, combined with experience and support, that I know the courage and hard choices it takes to make this step toward healing.

I meet clients virtually to quiet negative self-talk and build resilience in their nervous systems using a patent pending somatic processing tool. With a stronger nervous system, it’s easier to not be overwhelmed, in fact your baseline becomes calm, less triggered, and more balanced. Clients routinely report resolution of panic attacks; resolving the underlying causes of the negative self talk; resolving the root causes of anxiety, depression, rage, and numbness; having better relationships; and understanding their emotions better. This transformative work addresses the nonverbal impact of stressful/traumatic experiences including feelings, sensations, emotions, muscle tension, numbness and dissociation; the areas where talking is not effective. Benefits typically begin with the first session. We use CBD, medical cannabis, or ketamine assisted virtual sessions to activate brain areas that facilitate safely processing emotions, and make new brain cell connections (associated with learning and working around blocks) among many other benefits. Many patients complain about the emotional numbness and other symptoms caused by their psych medications. Because I am a medical doctor, as patients improve I am able to help wean them off of their meds when appropriate. Insurance is not accepted, but sliding scale payments are. I trained in Boston. Boston College was my graduate school, Beth Israel Hospital the site of my clinical education, and MIT, where I was a Senior Research Associate, the start of my professional career. In 1976, I emerged a licensed clinical psychologist in Massachusetts and began a practice treating young people, couples, and families. I also worked as a community therapist with teachers, parents, and students, to help integrate three Boston's public schools. In California I completed additional training and was licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist. I acquired experience in different approaches to treatment including, Cognitive Behaviorism, Family Systems, Narrative, Object Relations, Solution Focused, and Strategic therapy. I have extensive experience working with artists, trauma victims and addicts. I also train interns at a community mental health clinic. This was not my first career. I worked as an editor and a documentary filmmaker. The skills I developed became invaluable to me as a therapist. I learned to listen–for what is said but also for what is left unsaid--and to recognize the impact that social structures have on our life stories.
With a respectful and non-judgmental approach, I strive to help folks find solutions to many of life's challenges, particularly those involving relationships, anxiety, communication, self worth, overcoming past stressors or limiting beliefs, chronic pain, intimacy, sex, and sexuality.
The origins of many psychotherapeutic approaches come from a Eurocentric and Male perspective. The very history of psychology as well as current diagnostic criteria are guided by Eurocentric standards. Intersectionality challenges the history of psychology, the therapeutic approaches, as well as the DSM (the therapist "bible") by encouraging a clinician to take a step back and look at all the identities that present with each and every client. Intersectionality in therapy allows for a more well rounded and appropriate form of treatment that takes into account the impact of discrimination on our emotional well being as well as the resiliency and strength that can come with our identities
I'm a therapist for people whose lives have been flipped upside down by a diagnosis, injury or disability. Check out my website to learn more about me and what I do!
