Hi, my name is Emily! I’m originally from Birmingham, Alabama but now call Colorado home. What led me to pursue Social Work in a mental health setting was my childhood best friend’s mother. She was one of the most supportive and attentive woman in my life. She challenged and encouraged me in beautiful ways growing up and due to her impact on my life I followed in her footsteps.
I attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham where I got my bachelors degree in Social Work with a minor in International Studies. After I got my bachelors degree, I completed my master’s degree at the University of Denver with a concentration in Mental Health. During my time in school I have been able to work at a residential facility for women who have been sexually exploited, abused, and experienced complex trauma. Following this I have worked in private practice as a therapist with a wide variety of clients with diverse backgrounds, upbringings, ages, religious affiliation, and LGBTQIA+ identification. Through my own experience and education, I know how impactful care and treatment can be to individuals and thus want to provide that same level of care for others.
I conduct therapy in a collaborative style, which means I want to hear from my clients about what methods, modalities, structure, and style they prefer and will benefit most from. My approaches are usually structured around:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Mindfulness-Based CBT
I believe therapy can be used to process the past, assess the present, and prepare for the future. Therefore, there is a need for different modalities of therapy and I want to ensure that my clients are getting the care, skill sets, and validation they need during their time. I am currently accepting clients who are experiencing:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Self-esteem and confidence issues
- Family/relationship stressors
- Adjustment/life transitions
- Grief
- Traumatic experiences
- Trust issues
- Need for emotional regulation
I can provide you with paperwork for reimbursement from your insurance company if you are seeking out-of-network sessions.
